So-Called Dollars
As a specialty, So-Called Dollars seems to be about the most popular collecting topic in the "oughts.". The main catalog is Hibler and Kappen's So-Called Dollars, which dates from 1963. Initially the hobby and the book did not fare well in the 1960s; in 1978 the publisher, Coins and Currency Institute, "blew out" its stock of unsold books. I believe a total of about 4000 copies were released for a pittance. We bought four cases and offered the book free with the purchase of any other book from our stock.
Today finding the book is easy but the cost isn't as they routinely sell for $75 to $200. We have two right now (nice ones at $115 to $135, the better one including the old SCD Price Guide).
If you think you have an unlisted SCD that needs to be listed, please send us full information and we'll forward it to the SCD revision guy! We would also like to know of listed SCD in unreported metals.
We buy SCD and would like to solicit your offers. Please describe and price.
As of today, we have a fair assortment of SCD, including four Lesher dollars. [See the "Lesher Dollars" webpage.] Why not call us during expected "public" hours of any show and enquire of what we might have in stock?
(Yes, our stock seems to be down! We are experiencing a turnover in so-called dollar stock of 40% to 50% every show we attend! We do a lot of buying at the shows, augmented by some purchases through the mail. We also aggressively pursue good material in auctions. Be patient!)
Ordering Guidelines: Add $2 for orders under $100. You may email or call to enquire of the availability of any item. When we're not off to a show, we can fill orders in 24 hours.
We buy So-Called Dollars! Let us know what you have for sale.
